iPad Usage for Dummies
Coming into the Apple world as an Android and PC user for most of my life has been an enlightening experience. I always knew there were great facets to the Apple product line but had never gotten around to using any of their devices. Working through the iPad quiz at Apple Teacher Learning and workbook have shown me many different ways to utilize my new tool.
First I'll touch on some operations functions I really like. The control center you get when you swipe up from the bottom is really useful! Being able to quickly change the volume, brightness, and several settings is great and easy to use. Also, being able to search your iPad by dragging down from the middle of the home screen helps find notes or apps that you have lost in the homepage. Slide Over and Split View, are really cool as well, to be able to have two apps open at once can be very helpful. iBook has some really cool functions for annotation as well. As an avid reader, and one that is hesitant to make the switch completely from paper books to an E-Reader, I love tools that help them feel more real. Being able to highlight what sticks out, and then put notes and annotations for later reference is a sweet function for remembering important content. As a very forgetful person, the reminder function is also a valuable asset. If I am throwing some delicious chicken nuggets in the oven, all I have to do is open Siri and say, "Siri set a reminder for 20 minutes." She graciously replies, "OK, just tell me what you want to be reminded about." And simply, "Chicken nuggets" is the right response. Now with my iPad, instead of having slightly burnt chicken nuggets and a hot and smoky kitchen, I have perfection in the chicken nugget form. AirPlay is an awesome function for us at school. A lot of the TV's in study areas we can hook up our iPads to for collaboration and studying. Having the iPad on the big screen lets everyone see and comment on whatever we are trying to do which is great for group work! Again, as a long time Android user I was skeptical about how much use I would get out of this iPad, but after only a few short weeks with it I have already begun to use it daily. Its functionality and user friendliness makes it a good tool for homework, research, Netflix, and so much more. I sincerely enjoy using my iPad, and once my case comes in the mail it will have possibly the greatest function I've talked about. A fully functional kickstand. |
